What can Counselling do for me?
Counselling can be a transformative experience for many individuals. Here are some reasons to consider engaging in counselling:
1. Emotional Support
Counselling provides a safe and confidential environment where individuals can express their thoughts and feelings without judgment. It offers the emotional support needed to navigate life’s challenges.
2. Increased Self-Awareness
Through counselling, individuals can gain insights into their behaviors, thought patterns, and emotional responses. This self-awareness is crucial for personal growth and change.
3. Improved Relationships
Counselling can enhance interpersonal skills, leading to healthier and more fulfilling relationships. By understanding oneself better, individuals can communicate more openly and empathetically.
4. Tailored Support
Every person’s experience is unique. Counselling can be tailored to meet specific needs, whether dealing with grief, trauma, or everyday life stressors.
5. Addressing Unconscious Issues
Many people are unaware of the unconscious factors influencing their thoughts and behaviors. Counselling, particularly psychodynamic approaches, can help uncover these underlying issues and work through them.
6. Navigating Life Changes
Major transitions such as job changes, moving cities, or the end of a relationship can be overwhelming. Counselling provides a space to explore these changes and their emotional impacts.
7. Personal Development
Counselling is not only for those in distress. It can also serve as a tool for personal development, helping individuals explore their goals, values, and aspirations in life.
8. Confidentiality
A key aspect of counselling is confidentiality, allowing individuals to discuss private matters freely without fear of repercussions or disclosure.
9. Long-Term Benefits
Investing in counselling can lead to long-term benefits, including improved mental health, resilience, and a higher quality of life. Really, you’re investing in yourself.
Counselling is an opportunity to explore and understand your emotions better, providing a pathway toward a more fulfilling life. Whether you are facing immediate challenges or seeking personal growth, reaching out for help can be a powerful step forward.
About me

I practice one to one psychodynamic counselling. Sessions will be 50 minutes, once a week at the same time each week. My usual session fee is £50 per session. I offer reduced fee slots for people with lower incomes.
The first session will be a chance for us to meet and assess if its going to be a good fit for you. I will mainly be conducting an intake assessment to find out more about you and what brings you to counselling, and for this I charge £30 for the 50 minute assessment.
The psychodynamic modality looks at our unconscious; the parts of ourselves that we are not aware of as we go about our day. This affects how we are in relationships and how we view ourselves, and increasing our understanding of this part of our minds is what can help us to make lasting changes to our lives.
You might come to counselling with one specific topic you wish to focus on, or you might have no idea where to start. If you have a focus in mind, we might agree a set number of sessions to work to, and if not, I can work in an open ended way that allows more space to explore what comes up. We will figure out together what works best, which makes it hard to say how long you might want counselling for.
I trained with Gloucestershire Counselling Services, a BPC member institute, and I am an accredited psychodynamic counsellor with the BACP, and I work to the ethical standards set out by these organisations.
